Be@t: CCG/ZGDV promotes a sustainable future in the textile sector

8 August, 2025

The Be@t project – BioEconomy in the Textile Industry – marks a new step in the transformation of the Textile and Clothing Industry in Portugal, with the aim of promoting a more innovative, sustainable, and circular national sector. CCG/ZGDV plays a prominent role in Initiative 8 – Demonstration of Digital Screening Tools, which is part of the project's Sustainability Pillar.

The main objective of the Be@t project is to develop and establish a truly innovative, sustainable, and circular National Textile and Clothing Industry Chain. To this end, it focuses on the development of new bio-based and traceable materials, advanced production technologies, eco-design approaches, circular business models and awareness-raising strategies for responsible consumption, involving all stakeholders in the textile value chain.

Digital Product Curriculum Vitae and Digital Passport

In Measure 1, CCG/ZGDV is leading the development of an innovative pilot based on the concept of Product Curriculum Vitae, aligned with the future Digital Product Passport envisaged in the European strategy for circularity. This solution aims to ensure full traceability and transparency throughout the supply chain by collecting and integrating data into interoperable models. CCG/ZGDV is leading several tasks related to the development of a pilot for the Digital Product Passport, in line with European directives. Its responsibilities include technology watch, data model definition, pilot planning and monitoring, with a view to facilitating traceability, transparency and visibility of the supply chain.

Mapping Consumer Habits and Developing Digital Solutions

In Measure 2, CCG/ZGDV focuses on researching and validating digital tools to map the use of textile items by consumers. It contributes to the development of strategies that positively influence consumer behaviour throughout the product life cycle. In addition to being responsible for the functional and non-functional testing of digital solutions, CCG/ZGDV leads the planning and monitoring of the pilot, validating the effectiveness and suitability of the solution to the objectives of sustainability and circularity.

A practical example of this work is the joint initiative with Sonae Zeitreel, where consortium partners are analysing the usage patterns of T-shirts created especially for the project – Zippy Kidstore x Be@t – worn by a diverse group of consumers. This study provides valuable insights into purchasing, usage and disposal behaviour, contributing to the definition of more effective policies and solutions.

With a strong focus on technological innovation and the development of digital tools for sustainability, CCG/ZGDV positions itself as a key player in the ecological transition of the Portuguese textile industry, actively contributing to a more responsible, traceable sector that is prepared for the challenges of the future.
