5GMOBIX – 5G for cooperative & connected automated MOBIlity on X-border corridors

2019-2021 The 5GMobix project, funded through Horizon 2020, aims to validate 5G technologies for CCAM (Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility) use-cases, in seven different European and Asian trial sites, including a Portugal-Spain Corridor connecting the cities of Porto and Vigo. The remarkable technical advance of the last few years regarding communication networks like 5G and autonomous driving technology is paving the way for a future of CCAM. The European Union intends to be on the innovation frontline of this new paradigm, contributing to the technological development, preparing regulations and identifying business models that can support it. The 5GMobix project is a step in such a direction, involving 58 partners from several European and Asian countries. CCG’s contribution CCG will take part through the PIU (Perception, Interaction, and Usability) e UMC (Urban Mobile Computing) applied research domains. It will coordinate the technology user-acceptance evaluation across all trial sites and conduct the technical coordination of the Portuguese-Spanish Corridor. The project is expected to produce valuable knowledge regarding the real-world deployment of CCAM – 5G technologies, potentiating business models for exploitation and supporting the regulatory effort in years to come. 2017-2019 The UMinhoTech project has as main objective to promote economic recovery of R&D results produced by the University of Minho and its technological interfaces and strengthen the transfer of scientific and technological knowledge for the business sector. The UMinhoTech project aims to be a pioneer project on economic valuation of the scientific knowledge produced at the University of Minho and in its technological interfaces. With the implementation of this project the promoter Consortium seeks to achieve the following operational objectives: promote and facilitate communication with the corporate sector; promote the visibility of R&D units, raise new customers (new companies and new economic sectors); receive new projects (European and national); offer the industrial sector an integrated response University – research centers; promote the internationalization of the University of Minho and its technological interfaces. SAMU – Smart Autonomous Mobile Units in an industrial environment

2016 – 2018 The BOSCH 2 P24 SAMU – Smart Autonomous Mobile Units in an industrial environment – project has created scientific and technological advances related to robotics, logistics, information systems and mechanics, namely a set of processes, systems and tools with a high level of flexibility and quality. As part of this project, an internal material handling system was developed using two autonomous vehicles to support the logistic processes of movement of raw materials and finished products. Each vehicle moves autonomously from one place to another, detecting obstacles that may exist. This was one of the 15 research projects of the iFactory program that developed improved methods in product manufacturing processes, with new concepts of assembly, packaging, new electronic formats of instructions, new techniques for the welding process, etc. It counted with the participation of applied research domain UMC of the CCG. 2018 – 2021 The Product in Touch – Development and Industrial Validation of a Multimodal Virtual Prototyping for In-Car Design project aims the exploration of the tactile sensation in the design of specific components integrated into the cars interiors, where the project aims to achieve the following results: A tactile probe to extract tactile features from real plastic components; A computational model for correlating tactile sensation and object features to improve the product quality check in injection molding plastic components to meet the customers satisfaction; An advanced virtual prototyping method based on multisensory stimulation to integrate the customers’ feedback in the product quality check and preference verification, in a virtual way, before it enters into injection molding phase of plastic components. The solution presented by PRODUCT IN TOUCH seeks to standardize tactile sensation in a virtual environment to improve design, quality and manufacturing process in the injection molding of plastic components used in car interiors. This cross-sectional project includes the domains of applied research of the CCG: CVIG (Computer Vision, Interaction and Graphics) and (PIU (Perception, Interaction and Usability). Intelligent 4D Moulds

2018-2020 The Intelligent 4D Moulds project aims to investigate the state-of-the-art of mold production processes and to develop a technological innovative system that will include new processes in mold production using computer vision and augmented reality techniques. These allow reducing production costs, making companies more competitive in the national and international market. By exploring and combining the potential of both technologies, it will be possible to define and identify in each design and manufacturing process, what problems are found and to support in their resolution. The consortium is composed of two companies, A.Silva, Godinho & CA LDA and METEORIKEQUAÇÃO, and by a non-corporate entity, Association C.C.G. / ZGDV – Center for Computer Graphics. Being involved in all stages of the project, the CCG, by its applied research domain CVIG, focuses its participation in three main R&D+i lines: Automatic inspection of dimensional and geometric analysis of moulds integrated into the machining machines; An immersive environment for collaboration and remote assistance among all stake-holders for monitoring and validation of the process of design and testing of the molds to be built; Augmented reality system based on holographic technology for error detection. 2017 – 2019 The SIAC TT project has as main objective to reinforce the transfer of scientific and technological knowledge to the business sector, promoting a greater effectiveness in the R & I System and the creation of value in organizations. With this project, the CCG – Centre for Computer Graphics intends to carry out a set of actions that stimulate and foster the transfer of scientific and technological knowledge of its 4 areas of specialization (CVIG, EPMQ, PIU, UMC) to the business sectors, as well as stimulating and enhancing its economic activities of the North region of the country. With the transfer of scientific and technological knowledge, it is intended to contribute to: create value in organizations; improve tradable solutions; increase in exports (of products and services); strengthen the competitiveness of companies and the North region.   In accordance with these objectives, the action plan is constituted by 3 complementary initiatives and one last one, transversal to all others, of dissemination and dissemination of results: Action 1 – Initiatives of Interaction and Knowledge Transfer of “computer graphics”; Action 2 – Actions to disseminate, disseminate and integrate scientific and technological knowledge in the business fabric; Action 3 – Actions for the economic valuation of R & D results; Action 4 – Dissemination actions and dissemination of results. 2018–2019 The project Fashion Awareness Customer Profiling (FACPROF) aims to create the necessary conditions for better management of stocks in the retail fashion products based on a characterization of visitors and their consumption, thus meeting the real needs of consumers. The contribution of the CCG The Centre for Computer Graphics (CCG) participates in the project through its Domain of Applied Research – CVIG (Computer Vision Interaction & Graphics) with the research and development of the module of characterization of visitors, which will make intensive use of computer vision techniques. The goal is to extract information in 2 main levels: Type of visitor according to gender and age range and User’s garment size and color distribution. Benefits The collected information allows the visitor “to be categorized”, thus helping to predict their purchasing profile and therefore lead to an optimization of stock management. This optimization of stock management translates into greater availability of the parts and sizes intended by the consumers and on a better adjustment of the stock to the real needs. Due to turnover in clothing and footwear retail, a small increase in sales, margins or a decrease in inventory cost can translate into significant increases in retailers’ results. 2017-2020 The TexBoost – less Commodities more Specialties mobilizing project is a structuring project of the Textile Cluster: Technology and Fashion. Its objective is to cluster collective R & D initiatives with a strong inductor and demonstrator component, involving Textile and Clothing companies, as well as other complementary sectors of the economy. Activities This project has as main activities:  developing new textile solutions, with the creation of new scientific knowledge;  to develop very innovative products and processes using state-of-the-art technologies that will provide new experiences for consumers and participating businesses;  simplify access by the companies involved in new markets/business areas or reinforce existing markets/business areas, nationally and internationally. Work phases The TexBoost project is organized in 6 PPS – Products, Processes, and Services – built from 50 activities, resulting in 17 innovative solutions in several areas.  PPS 1 – Digitization and dematerialization  PPS 2 – New materials  PPS 3 – New structures  PPS 4 – IE Textiles  PPS 5 – Circular Economy  PPS 6 – Management (management, dissemination and exploitation of results) The contribution of the CCG The CCG – Centre for Computer Graphics – is involved in the PPS phase 1 of the project, more specifically in nuclear activity 1, which includes the technological development in the scope of digitization and dematerialization of tissue samples. The applied research domain EPMQ of the CCG is responsible for the research and development of a computer tool for dematerialization of tissue samples that will comprise the conceptualization and implementation of a digital platform for integration, treatment, and analysis of decision support data in the virtual prototyping of fabrics. For this purpose, we will use approaches applied to the development of interoperability architectures and BigData and Machine Learning algorithms. These algorithms are able to learn from the history of textile data, as well as to predict and optimize variables/parameters useful for decision-making processes in textile production. 2017-2020 FAMEST – Footwear, Advanced Materials, Equipment’s and Software Technologies is a project that will boost innovation in the footwear sector, and the internationalization of the Portuguese footwear.   This FAMEST mobilizer project focuses on the generation of knowledge and its integration into new competitive solutions, namely in the development of: new concepts of fashion, technical, customized or personalized footwear, intelligent, for special niches and global markets; innovative bio, eco, nanomaterials and multifunctional components; digital technologies for production processes, the relationship between the various actors in the value chain and the end customer; new digital technologies, flexible and agile. innovative and environmentally responsible business models. The contribution of the CCG occurs at the level of “PPS 1. FAMEST SHOE – Tools and concepts for the shoes of the future” in particular at the level of the activity “A1.7 Development of Anatomical Measurement and Visualization of Footwear” where we aim to research and develop innovative solutions for: Three-dimensional reconstruction of the foot using photogrammetry; Anatomical comfort analysis in order to find the ideal footwear for each foot specificity; and Immersive visualization of tridimensional footwear models, on the foot using augmented reality techniques.   CCG also participates in the activities: “Prototype construction, pre-series and validation test”; “Promotion and dissemination of PPS results”;  “Technical management of PPS”.   As well as in PPS: FAMEST DEMO – Dissemination, demonstration and exploitation of results”; FAMEST COORDENA – Global coordination of the project”.   The FAMEST project is promoted by a full consortium of 23 companies across all the footwear value chain: leather, soles, soles, chemicals, software, equipment, logistics and footwear, and 9 I&I entities with multidisciplinary and complementary competencies that ensure the development of innovative results and their economic valuation by the promoters in the national and international markets.
