EPMQ – IT Engineering Process, Maturity & Quality

_DESCRIPTION

EPMQ is the CCG Institute’s domain of applied research in engineering process maturity and quality. Additionally, EPMQ has chosen, as requirements for its research, that it must be objective and that its applicability must be validated in an industrial environment.

The position of the CCG in the interface between academy and industry is a prime strategic option to ensure compliance with these requirements in conjunction, as it allows the simultaneous involvement, in all its research projects, not only of representatives of industry interested in the production and marketing new products and technological solutions, but also of members of the scientific community interested in the application and validation of new models and scientific approaches.

In the specific case of EPMQ, the stakeholders to be involved in their projects are the industry dedicated to development (of systems in general and software in particular) and members of research groups engaged in these scientific areas.

The development projects implemented in the EPMQ may thus arise in two ways: On one hand, the initiative of a project can originate in a specific interest in the validation of ideas of a researcher, or a perceived need for innovation by a development company. In this case, EPMQ offers the researcher the conditions for their ideas to remain framed by objectivity, as well as the opportunity to validate them. Additionally, new ideas for future work of interest to the industry may arise. On the other hand, EPMQ also provides the industry the conditions to innovate without having to invest in in-house, very expensive, research resources, which would take several years to acquire the scientific maturity and productivity that can be found at the University of Minho.

The synergistic richness of these research conditions has been recognized worldwide as a strong generator of added value and is, therefore, more and more encouraged by national governments and EU authorities.
